Public Education in Support of Primary Healthcare Reform
USAID 2005-Present
OSC leads the Public Education, Health Promotion and Disease Prevention component of the Primary Health Care Reform project (PHCR) in Armenia. At the national level, OSC works with the Ministry of Health to promote basic health services and free prescription benefits available to the general population, as well as strategic initiatives like population enrollment and family medicine. At the local level, OSC is training a cadre of NGOs that create and train Community Health Committees (CHC) in rural Armenian communities. After completing two stages of capacity building, the CHCs execute health education activities in their communities on topics such as cardiovascular health, diabetes prevention, healthy diet and bones, and healthy lifestyle choices. Information is disseminated to the target audience with the innovative use of technologies like SMS.
